The increasing use of cell phones while driving has become a serious safety concern. A recently released study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute found that “80% of traffic accidents are caused by driver distraction and young drivers were four times more likely to be involved in a crash.” The study also showed that “about 65 percent of near-crashes resulted from driver inattentiveness in the 3 seconds before the incident.” The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that “in 2005, 10 percent of drivers using cell phones were drivers 16 to 24 years old.” More laws are now being enacted to end cell phone use when driving. If you are caught driving in a state that has these laws, you can be ticketed by a police officer and receive a fine. Fortunately, there a number of hands-free mobile phone accessories that people can purchase so they no longer have to worry about getting a ticket.
